Warning:
This is cicada sound, but with a LOT of commentary. It is my opinion
that one cannot tell, on tape, the level of the cicada sound without
the reference of some other sound, such as the human voice, to match it
against. Also, I recorded all this for the sake of historical
purposes, to remember in words as well as cicada sound, what this
event was/is like.

Tuesday, June 8, 2004: For the last couple days
the cicadas have not started singing as early (it was usually around
12 noon). The crowd *sounds* like it has thinned, although the
individual members seem like they are still singing with gusto. Late
in the afternoon instead of the constant whirr and hum, it has taken
on the characteristic of the rise and fall as of ocean waves,
although the sound
is still rattle-y and hissy.

Thursday, June 17, 2004, recorded from indoors
at treetop level: There are
hardly any cicadas left. You can hear a couple singing antiphonally.

CICADA
SOUND FROM 1987
~~ (this is basically just LOUD) ~~
These are all from one cassette tape I made in late May 1987
from inside our apartment here in Cincinnati, Ohio. I broke it up into
three .mp3 files to make download a little easier.
This tape was originally supposed to be destined for a penpal, but
instead I kept it for
historical purposes! Click to play or right-click to download
