Part 67

Wednesday, November 1, 2006, 3:10pm: Wow, it's November already! Autumn always seems to go so fast, after the draggy slowness of summer--at least for me. :-)

Okay first some national serious stuff: Tuesday, November 7th is Election Day in the USA. If you are eligible to vote, PLEASE DO!

Your Vote Matters!

Your vote counts!

Now for personal voting ::grin:: It's that time of month to ask you once again to please vote for me. I won last month's Mystical Meadows Top Sites with everyone's support! Thank you so much! I won't be competing there again for a YEAR (!). But I will still need your votes at Web Town and at the regular competitions at Mystical Meadows. So here once again is how to help me out--and thanks ahead of time:  [EDIT Sept. 19, 2007: I have quit competing as of today, so the Voting Page is no longer there--thanks for all your support!]

Oh yeah, and I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween/Samhain. Here is my backward way of telling you about our little observance of it (since I already told you about the latter part last night!).

Wednesday, November 8, 2006, 2:47pm:  Woohoo! Bunnicula and I watched the election returns for hours last night and started feelin' pretty good! As you might've guessed, if you've ever taken a good look around my site, I am (and so is B.) a Proud Democrat  So it was good to see things turning so BLUE last night!

While we watched I worked on a loom knitted scarf I am making on the Knifty Knitter purple rectangular loom. It's a pale lemon yellow (Lion Brand Chunky USA yarn) in a rib stitch. The people on CNN seemed hopped up on toooo much caffeine! LOL! It was just a bit too nerve-wracking to listen to them! So we kept the TV on MSN most of the night (I personally like Keith Olbermann).  We stopped watching around 11pm. I checked again around 1am before hitting the hay.

Today was good news! We got Montana, AND Donald Rumsfeld resigned!

Locally: we have a Democratic governor of Ohio--after all these years! Yay! And soon our restaurants (and I think all other public places) will all be SMOKE-FREE! Yay!

Books: I finished reading A New Song about a week ago (another great book in the Mitford series!) and started reading a book Bunnicula recommended to me called One Hundred Million Hearts by Kerri Sakamoto. It is about the secrets and burdens of second-generation Japanese-Canadians, and what their parents went through. Very good, very moving. Here is B.'s review of the book. I haven't read it yet because I'm not finished with the book.

My next book, which is on its way to me, will be Open Christianity by Jim Burklo. My sis and I have been talking about our early days and how our spirituality was then, and how to find a way to recapture that (or some version of that). I am not sure how I personally am going to incorporate any of this into my current spirituality, as I am a polytheist; but it looks exciting anyway. Here is the home page for The Center for Progressive Christianity. I also have several books out from the library about the "hijacking" of mainstream Christianity by the extreme Right. Here is the title of just one: Middle Church: Reclaiming the Moral Values of the Faithful Majority from the Religious Right by Bob Edgar. Explore more books along these lines at amazon.com or Barnes & Noble online...or your local library!

Friday, November 10, 2006, 4:29pm: Because I might not have a chance to get online much over the weekend, I wish you a peaceful, meaningful Veterans Day, tomorrow, November 11th, here in the USA.

Saturday, November 18, 2006, 12:11pm:  If you knit or crochet, you probably already have a favourite charity you like to do work for. Here is one that I have been meaning to do something for. Last year I did loom-knitted hats for people on Pine Ridge Reservation. This year I am doing afghan squares. :-)  Click the poster to see how you can help. ALSO, Michaels Arts and Crafts Stores (nationwide chain) is involved in this, so you can always drop off your squares there.

Tuesday, November 21, 2006, 3:35am: Yes, I am up at this weird hour because I gotThe Politics of Jesus sleepy around 5:30pm yesterday and went to bed WAY early! LOL! I slept until 12:30am.

The New Oxford Annotated Bible - RSVAnyway. Books. As I said above, I was going to start reading Open Christianity. I did, but it just didn't grab me. Maybe because at heart I am truly a Unitarian exploring my Christian roots. What DID grab me though is a firebrand of a book called The Politics of Jesus by Obery M. Hendricks, Jr. ! This book is certainly helping me see Jesus in a totally different light: a revolutionary, a social activist! Right now I am learning a very swift history of the Jewish people, to see what shaped Jesus' way of thinking. Click on the picture above right to see it MUCH larger. I also found my New Oxford Annotated Bible (Revised Standard Version)--this includes the Apocrypha and extensive study notes. Great! So I can follow along on various stories and such. Wow, things were very violent back in those times! Still are...humanity still needs to get its act together.

For fiction I recently read a book that Cat'r gave me for Christmas a couple years ago, The Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia A. McKillip. Wondrous! I loved it! I am currently reading East by Edith Pattou. I *love* mythical stories, legends, magickal beings, and polar bears! How could I not love this book?! Right now our heroine is on a journey to right a wrong she did, to save someone. That's all I will tell you. ::grin:: You MUST read this! This is for ages 12 and older. Click on both pictures below to see them larger.
