Where is Love? episode 3

The episode opens with Ryousuke stopping Ai from ringing the doorbell at her home and giving in to her parents. He tells her he's going to Paris to bring his ex-fiancee back, even though he has absolutely no idea where she is.

Mikan finishes cleaning up Ryousuke's car. She goes off to the ramen restaurant while Ryousuke walks right behind her to his place. One of the guys questions Mikan and she says she wants an older man which makes Midorikawa feel good. Meanwhile Wataru calls the "stewardess" to talk to her.(Notice that he's pretending to be older and she's pretending to be younger and both tell numerous lies about themselves when talking.)

The next day Ryousuke is getting ready to go to Paris, trying to figure out what excuse to make up when he calls the school when the doorbell rings. It's Reiko's father. (Notice how low he's bowing; that deep and it's a very significant bow.) He tells Ryousuke that he's talked to his daughter (and he bows again, very low, while sitting down).

He asks Ryousuke to act like he's the one who turned her down. It would help the father save face, rather then try to explain to people how his thirty-year-old daughter decided to dump her fiancee, go to Paris and become a model. "Saving face" in Japan is a very, very important thing; think of it as saving your own reputation over something that's very important to you.

Another pic showing her father bowing. When someone gets down on the floor and bows like this, it is the ultimate expression of asking for forgiveness, help, etc. He explains that he took his daughter's resignation in to the school and told them the marriage was off, and he offers Ryousuke some money by ways of compensation.

At the salon, the women are looking at a magazine with an article about Shimura while Ai looks on. Mikan comes by and Ai asks her if she wants to go for a drink after she gets off work.

Meanwhile Ryousuke gives up going to Paris and tears his ticket in half. Reiko's father had given him enough money to pay off the wedding expenses, fortunately.

Midorikawa and Ryousuke go out for a drink together also. Midorikawa says he has someone he likes which is, of course, Mikan, but Ryousuke doesn't know that.

To recap briefly: at this stage:

Mikan wants Ryousuke who doesn't have any interest in her at all (and he has no idea she's interested in him, either).

Ryousuke has been dumped by his fiancee, now ex-fiancee.

Midorikawa wants Mikan who has no interest in him at all (and has no idea he's interested in her at all).

Shimura has dumped Ai.

Wataru and Ouda have a phone relationship going, but based entirely on lies by both of them.

Ouda's husband is cheating on her.

Mikan and Ai are pretending to be Mikan and Ryousuke so Mikan can figure out how to finally talk to him. At the same time, Ryousuke and Midorikawa are pretending to be Mikan and Midorikawa so he can figure out how to talk to her.

Later Ai calls Shimura but all he does is describe to her what he's doing with a girl that is with him. Midorikawa tells Ryousuke that he wants to see his son, but that his ex-wife won't allow him to.

The next morning Wataru's mother tells him that he needs to get into as good a school as his new father attended when he was young. She looks down on Midorikawa saying he had no education and is only running a beef-bowl shop while his "new" father is being promoted to division chief of his the company he works for.

Ouda calls Wataru again and talks to him. He wants to meet her which causes her to panic. Meanwhile Ryousuke goes to the ramen shop and tells Midorikawa that he has officially cancelled his marriage. Later Ryousuke goes to the club to talk to Ai. All they end up doing, though, is argue.

Mikan's waited the entire time for Ryousuke to get back (and cleaned the glass, mailboxes, etc. while she was waiting), but when he returns he's with Ai and so she hides. When Ryousuke and Ai get to his apartment they start taking each other's clothes off as fast as they can.
