Good Luck, episode 7

Shinkai is flying with a different pilot on this particular flight.

The pilots are getting ready for their medical exam. Shinkai flunks his and is temporarily suspended.

Both Shinkai and Ogawa have exams in their fields today.

The pilot was Koda's teacher years ago.

They fly into a particular kind of cloud and things become very rough very quickly.

After the plane lands Koda starts criticizing Shinkai.

The thing with Shinkai is not really serious, though, and Koda tells him to be more careful in the future. He really comes down on the pilot, though, who happens to be the #1 pilot in the nation as far as flight hours go. He criticizes the pilot on not properly instructing Shinkai on things he should do when they ran into some turbulence.

Then the pilot makes reference to something that happened to Koda twelve years ago.

As a direct result of Koda's criticisms, the pilot announces that this will be his last flight, that he will retire upon returning to Japan.

The pilot starts to tell Shinkai about what happened to Koda twelve years ago. Apparently he was a pilot for an American airlines and called in sick one day when he had a cold. An elderly pilot took his place and the plane crashed, carrying some Japanese passengers. Koda blames himself. The cause was actually a plane malfunction.

The airport announces his retirement and he gets a very warm welcome.

Shinkai tells Ogawa about Koda's past and the crash is probably the one that killed her parents. Note; I'm writing these reviews as I watch the episodes so I'm guessing that the crash was that particular one.
