Shinkai on his training flight.

Koda talks to Shinkai's father.

The doctor gives them the bad news.

Although he suffered a concussion, and he'll recover from that, there's damage to his legs could keep him from being fit enough to ever fly again.

While Shinkai is undergoing rehab they are already talking about him at work and trying to move him to a different job.

Shinkai is being discharged from the hospital a month after the accident.

The crazy lady next door sort of greets Shinkai when he returns to his apartment. She's living in some kind of fantasy world of her own.

Ogawa comes to visit him.

She takes him to see the airplanes. He vows he will fly again.

He gets mobbed by the stewardesses when he appears at the airport.

Shinkai finds out that Koda is quitting.

Shinkai confronts Koda.

Shinkai is told there is a surgical procedure to straighten the bone in his injured leg. The nerves have to be severed and then reconnected and there's a low success rate. If it fails he will never walk normally again.
