Trick I

A woman is told she can stay at a certain place by “Big Mother.”

Then suddenly we jump to somebody talking to the police because he says someone is out to kill him.

He talks about some kind of cult in the mountains.

He sees Big Mother floating in the air.

Then we jump to Yamada (Nakama Yukie). She’s doing a magic trick. Almost no one pays attention to what she is doing, though.

Yamada is shown a picture of Professor Ueda. He’s a debunker, a person who tries to prove spiritualism/psychic demonstrations are all hoaxes and tricks. The manager(?) tells Yamada he wants her to answer the professor’s challenge, to do something that he can’t disprove.

Either she gets the reward the professor is offering or she is fired from her job. He basically tells her that her performance is boring.

She’s being hounded by her landlady because she is behind on paying her rent.

She decides to try for the reward.

She starts doing whatever it is she’s going to do involving a coin and an envelope, and having him provide both, mark the coin, seal the envelope himself, etc.

He’s fooled by her trick, thinking she really did something mystical, and acts like hes planning to give her the reward (about $3000 in U.S. money), but he takes the check back and starts talking about the cult noted above.

He wants her to prove that “Big Mother” is a fake. The daughter of the head of the place is in the cult, and he wants Yamada to get her out of it.

She asks him why he doesn’t do it and he claims he doesn’t have the time, but she hits the nail on the head with the real reason. He met “Big Mother” and she told him he would die within ten days and there are only four left.

Yamada talks to her mother. Yamada wants to know if her father really died in an accident, and it also seems someone may be stalking her.

There is an earthquake and the next day two guys ask the professor if an earthquake can be artificially created. A man was killed when a florescent light fell on him and he had been in that cult and left.

Big Mother again appears to the prof, he again faints, and ends up going to Yamada’s apartment.

She tells him how she tricked him about the coin earlier.

At the cult camp they are given some water to drink and the prof tests it scientifically. It’s supposed to “purify the body” according to one of the followers.

He talks to the special daughter that he’s been looking for.

Some of the people write down their wishes on paper prior to a meeting with Big Mother. The first “stunt” goes to Big Mother who seems to be able to read things through an envelope.

There are two women and one men in the same room which, at least to me, appears to be a restroom. Isn’t that somewhat unusual?

Yamada has had time to figure out what kind of trick Big Mother used to make it appear that she could psychically read the material through the envelope.

The daughter apparently had killed her son, or at least thinks she did. Her son did die and she thinks it was because of her being a bad person.

Yamada challenges Big Mother to guess her troubles a second time. She has flat breasts and (something; the episode ends there.)
