Captain T. Aoki, I.J.N., Commanding Officer of (CV) Akagi in the Battle of Midway

The Captain talks and the interpreter (left) then reports what the captain said. Aoki starts by saying that, until the Battle of Midway, Japan had been on the offensive, but after the battle it was forced to adopt a defensive strategy.

This guy, whoever he is, asks the Captain for his opinion on the role of horizontal vs dive bombing techniques during the battle.

The captain says it was carrier-based dive bombers that turned back the Japanese fleet at Midway. The Japanese lost four carriers during the battle to dive-bombing attack. The captain says he can't recall a single hit from any high-altitude (horizontal) bombing.
