Atom Bombed Children

The story is about a teacher who returns to Hiroshima four years after the dropping of the atomic bomb. It was first shown in Japan in 1952. This is not exactly a documentary as various actors and actresses are used. It's basically an anti-war film, emphasizing that message by dwelling on how many people the teacher knew had died, were dying, or were ill from the explosion of the bomb and the effects of radiation they received over the years.

It's just not done in a very interesting manner since it seems to repeat particular things happening over and over and over. Of course, it's an old film, and that could have a lot to do with it. The film becomes basically boring.

Students at exercise. (The film is not in the best condition so some images will not be in great shape.)

There are subtitles but whether or not you can read them depends on the background. The woman gym (?) teacher says she is going to Hiroshima, so this must be when it's five years after the bombing. It's revealed that the teacher's parents are dead.

She arrives in Hiroshima.

She talks about how the children of that day have grown up.

She then talks about how the city has been rebuilt.

The film returns to the day of the bombing. The teacher, her parents and I presume a sister all lived in the city.

The bomb explodes.

This type of thing is true.

The atomic bomb dome which remains there to the present day.

She talks to a blind person. At this point in the film the subtitles have seemed to slip somewhat and only part of them are readable.

The number of deaths he cites is about twice what most others say. Unless things change, from this point I'll be guessing at some of the things said. The clip only shows clearly the first line of what is said; half to three-quarters of the second line is missing, and if there is any more than that it's also gone. Also, it seems the longer the clip goes on, the less is actually translated.

This is an orphanage.

At about thirty minutes even the first line of the subtitles is impossible to read, so I'll just get some scans and throw in an occasional comment about what I think is happening. A lot of it seems to be people becoming ill and dying from the radiation poisoning they received four or five years earlier.
