A Boy No More

Adam Pelko is fifteen and living in Hawaii. His father dies on the Arizona in the attack on Pearl Harbor and later he, his mother and Bea, his younger sister, move to the mainland. Adam had Japanese American friends, one of whom is Davi, and Davi wants Adam to deliver a letter to his cousin whose father was arrested after the start of the war.

It's not that simple, though, as the person he's supposed to deliver the letter to isn't in San Francisco any more. Davi goes to an assembly center, but that's also a dead end. The final target is Manzanar.

The book deals with people's feelings about the Japanese Americans after the attack, Davi coming to terms with his own feelings about losing his father, Davi dealing with rather typical growing-up problems of a teenager, and Davi's sort-of relationship with a girl he meets.

It's basically pretty much an average book, in my opinion. Somewhat interesting, but not attention-grabbing.
