Color of the Sea

This is a novel, but it's really more like a fictional biography, following the life story of Isamu, from his birth in Japan through his moving to Hawaii, on through adulthood and his life as a teacher and then a translator for the U.S. military in World War II.

There's a neat section on his training in martial arts. He also ends up having sex with a woman that's married, but finds a woman he's actually in love with later.

The descriptions in the books about specific events like in Hawaii or the internment camps is also quite accurate, so it really feels like you're reading a fascinating biography of a real person. Definitely worth reading.
