This is for quite young readers. The book starts off by talking about inventions from Japan, including the first novel ever written. Then it talks about the arts, including flower arranging, haiku poetry, and kabuki theater. The part about foods talks about shiitake mushrooms and sukiyaki.
Fashion is next, including the kimono and geta, followed by toys and games with, of course, Tamagotchi! Animals follow that section, and then its musical instruments. Sports, including sumo, is next to be discussed. Origami is also discussed.
A glossary and some references are also included. Overall a very cute book.
