Art of Japan

This book is about a particular art style of Japan, the ukiyo-e woodblock prints. These were prints made using a wooden block (much like a person would use an ink stamp to imprint a design) and could be in colors or black-and-white.

The prints generally depicted the more common Japanese life, showing scenes of fashion, sumo wrestling and kabuki characters. The book has a number of examples of these prints, most of which are very well done. It also talks about how this particular Japanese style influenced some American artists.

This is a very interesting book.
