Japan: Enchantment of the World

This book, as most others, has very good photographs, and lots of regular information, but the strength of this book is in the emphasis it places on Japanese culture.

There's the usual historical information (with various maps, and additional resources noted at the end of the book), but I was most impressed by the time spent on Japanese religion, foods, entertainment, and other aspects of the Japanese culture. To me, how people live is just as important and more interesting than technical facts about the nation's geography, resources, weather, etc.

This is a book done by Scholastic, which is another point in its favor. The book is also for, say, upper elementary to maybe junior high age. Definitely worth reading, even for adults.
