Something I had not read elsewhere. the Planters' Association of Honolulu might have played a part in stirring up unrest in California in order to stop the Japanese immigrants in Hawaii from going to the continental U.S.

Not everyone in California hates the Japanese.

This looks at fears of a Japanese invasion. Note; this is 1921. The fear of a Japanese invasion was used twenty years later as one of the reasons to “evacuate” persons of Japanese ancestry from West Coast states, and put them into internment camps several states over.
