Two If By Sea

The episode opens with the attack on Peleliu.

1944.

Various scenes of battles, and lots of scenes of dead bodies are shown.

Nearby Angaur island is also attacked.

The Japanese offer stiff resistance. For some reason this episode is relying on Biblical quotes, poetry and other sayings for much of its narration. It's a little bothersome in that it just doesn't really seem to fit what is being shown.

The Japanese attempt a small convoy to reinforce the troops but it's spotted and attacked.

They show scenes of a Japanese trying to swim to shore from one of the destroyed barges, and shows how they are shooting at him.

Then they show scenes of a Japanese prisoner that's been taken. These two scenes contradict each other; one or the other should have been left out.

There's also a very liberal use of flamethrowers in this episode. The episode has been somewhat sloppily edited, also. There are scenes that are actually repeated within the episode.

Then hospital ships are discussed. (They really went for gruesome in this episode, also. There are more closeups of dead bodies and wounded bodies than in any other episode, it seems.)

Then it shows other Japanese prisoners being taken.

The episode then has yet another Biblical quote, and even more close-up scenes of dead bodies. This is the first episode of this series that I have seen that I actually don't think was well done.
