Return to Hiroshima

The book starts out with text and photos of present-day (1970) Hiroshima. then it goes into the events of the atomic bombing, and uses both artwork and photos. It's a very powerfully written book, although I will put a warning her that some of the photos might be upsetting to very young kids.

The book also talks about the hibakusha, the survivors of the bombing, and how they are discriminated against by other Japanese. This is sort of like blaming the victim of a crime, but actually much worse.

The entire issue of hibakusha is something that is still controversial even in present-day Japan. There's still arguments over what kind of help survivors should get, how much they should get, who gets it, etc.

A good but somewhat upsetting book.
