The Fall of the Philippines: The War in the Pacific

This is a 600-plus page book dealing with the very early part of World War II when the Philippines fell to the Japanese onslaught. The book outside and inside looks like a textbook. There's also a load of maps and photos to accompany the text.

Early on the book talks about Japan's basic strategy, to take the Philippines and various other areas and form a defensive perimeter that would allow them to take the natural resources from various other countries and ship them to Japan.

The book is obviously very, very detailed, and will prove a valuable resource for anyone wanting to examine that phase of the war. For anyone else, though, it would probably be not that interesting.
