Patrolling Guadalcanal

Autumn 1999, volume 12 #1.

Going back to August 7, 1942. The article centers on a 23 year old first lieutenant. Japanese prisoners sometimes wanted to be killed in order to save face. Japanese soldiers were never supposed to surrender.

The patrolling was done in the heat with heavy weapons. Japanese morale was low and they did not collect their dead.

The strength of the article lies in its first-person very realistic account.
