Personal Perspectives on Peleliu

Military Quarterly, Winter, 1999, volume 11 #2.

This is a good article about a man whose father fought on Peleliu. His father was on the island in 1944. There were lots of caves dug into the area, a procedure followed on Iwo Jima and Okinawa in particular, which resulted in high U.S. casualties. The resistance of the Japanese was underestimated. The fight was particularly vicious and there was some bad leadership that made things worse for the soldiers.
