U.S. actor. She was the first to play Lady Babble in The Little Minister 1891 by the Scottish writer J. M. Barrie, who wrote the part for her. She became an outstanding interpreter of his heroines, and of those of the French dramatist Edmond Rostand.

Adams was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, where her mother was leading lady of the repertory company. From a very early age Maude played child parts, among them Eva in Uncle Tom's Cabin.
