Mary Magdalene: Insights from Ancient Magdala

This is an interesting book about Mary Magdalene and it's done in a different way than other books I've read about her. A good part of the book is about the place where she apparently came from which is Magdala and the other part of the book is about her.

In addition, there are photos and artwork which adds to the quality of the book.

The book covers a good bit of information about Magdala including Greek and Roman influences on its architecture, it's dependence on fish and its relationship to trade routes.

In the part about Mary Magdalene the book discusses the seven demons that she supposedly had (which more likely were health and/or mental problems although the author of the book believes in demons being real.) There are also sections entitled The Woman Who Walked with Jesus, Apostle to the Apostles, the Mystery of Mary Magdalene and what actually happened to her after the death of Jesus.

It also talks about the Gnostic writings and why they were not included in the 'official' Bible. The author considers her an Icon of Hope and someone who is still very relevant in this century.

Overall a well-done book.
