Leaving Home

Elizabeth has a chance to study abroad for a full year, helping her develop her writing abilities. She's really excited about winning a scholarship to the school. There will be interviews with people from the school and she pressures all her friends, her sister and her parents to basically be on their best behavior when they show up for the interview. She even gets Steven to come home from college for a couple of days to help out.

In Elizabeth's enthusiasm, though, she has overlooked what everyone else thinks about her leaving for a full year. Jessica is almost traumatized by the possibility. Enid, her best friend, is upset. Jeffrey French, her boyfriend, is upset. They develop various schemes, some of which are quite funny, to try to sabotage Elizabeth. Still, it's their wishes vs. Elizabeth's wishes and the question is who will get their wish granted?

The second theme relates to Winston. There's a lottery drawing coming up and Winston has a ticket. He throws a party the night of the drawing and it seems he has won $25,000.!

The problem is the ticket isn't his. It belongs to someone else (when their jackets got accidentally switched). The guy who the ticket belongs to is fairly poor. Winston's question now is whether he will keep the ticket, the money and the acclaim from his friends or whether he will return the ticket to the old man, lose out on $25,000 and possibly get in trouble since he has held on to the ticket for several days.

Both themes are done well.
