After the Rain

Rachel is a young girl who has a good writing ability. She's doing normally at school, no major problems. Her story involves the coming death of her grandfather, Izzy, who is known as a rather cantankerous old man who not friendly at all. He's also ill, having considerable difficulty with breathing.

He goes to a doctor and the family finds out his condition is terminal, although they don't tell him. Rachel starts taking walks with her grandfather, at first having to deal with his unfriendly manner, but over time the two of them become closer.

There's no violence in the story, no major international plot intrigues, but the story is still quite good, examining how two very different people are able to communicate and become important to each other.
