Annie on My Mind

The novel is about two girls, Annie and Liza, who come from different socioeconomic backgrounds but end up falling deeply in love. Liza comes from a very strict school and gets suspended for not telling the administration about a girl who was piercing other girls' ears. (She didn't rat the girl out so she was punished for not telling.)

She meets Annie who comes from a totally different type of school, a violent one with almost no control of the students at all. Still, they share a lot of interests and there is no doubt at all that they are very much in love.

They have a major problem, though, deciding if they will actually have sex. They do and all hell breaks loose as a noisy neighbor forces her way into the house Annie is taking care of and catches the girls. The woman totally hates lesbianism and from there things go downhill rapidly. Two female teachers the girls know from the school are also shown to be lesbians and they both get fired.
