Bloomability

Dinnie is a young girl who has a rather unusual pair of parents and she's always moving from one town to another. Then suddenly she finds herself being taken by her Aunt Sandy and Uncle Max to Switzerland to an international school where Uncle Max serves as headmaster.

It's not something she wants to do but she ends up going anyhow and meets students from a variety of other countries. She gradually becomes friends with them and even goes on ski trips. On one of those, though, there is an avalanche and for a while it appears that two of the students could have been killed.

On the positive side, the title deals with a lot of what is going on, where Dinnie is opening herself to new possibilities and growing as she does.

On the other hand, it's sort of hard to take the girl seriously. There are many things that she does not want to do, including going to Switzerland, but with each and every thing she eventually gives in and does it anyhow. Instead of protesting too much she really protests too little, always giving in to what others want her to do. As such she turns out to be a character that you don't feel sorry for and don't really grow to care very much about.

It's overall sort of a "blah, who cares" sort of book.
