Merry Meet

Anna, Kate and Cooper to open ritual which leads to the first in a series of classes about witchcraft. (Again, there is a good bit of explanatory material about what witchcraft is and is not.)

A new girl, Sasha, is also in the class. Later, it seems that she apparently steals the group's spell boo, although there is no proof at that time that she did so.

Then Kate and her boyfriend Scott break up, with Scott being the one to end their relationship. This occurs in an unexpected manner, surprising Kate totally.

Kate then goes to the second class; there are fewer people than in the first class. The classes have a period of general teaching/explanation, then break up into small groups which then discuss some aspect of Wicca, or actually try to solve some problem. It seems that Sasha, who is also still attending class, is very aggressive in her ideas of how magic should be used; even admitting that she once did a spell on a girl who stole something from her and, by coincidence (?) the girl's house soon burned down. Sasha seems totally unaffected by the implications of what she might have done; not a trace of remorse colors her remarks.

It seems that Kate has begun to make friends with Tyler, a boy in the study group, and their friendship is fast approaching the girlfriend/boyfriend stage.

Later, the library, helping Sasha with an English paper, Kate discovers that Sasha had stolen a book about witchcraft from Anne's home. She also discovers that Shasha had done a spell to get Scott, her former boyfriend, to fall in love with her instead of Kate. It even seems that Sasha is managing to take Kate's "in-group" friends away from her at the same time.

Yet all may not be exactly as it seems. Kate goes in search of Sasha and finds out that the girl is hiding a major secret. Kate still has the dedication ritual to go through and still has to deal with her own feelings for Tyler. A lot goes on in this book, and Kate seems be getting more mature in the way she deals with people.
