Nancy Drew Diaries: Curse of the Arctic Star

First off, a couple of complaints. This new series is called Nancy Drew's Diaries. You would think that, because of the name, the story would be written in some form of a diary. It's not. There's a very short diary-type entry at the start of the story, and one at the end, and that's it.

It's also interesting to see how the number of chapters keeps going down. In the original Nancy Drew books, there were 25 chapters. In the next version, there were five chapters fewer, lowering the total to 20. Then newer books were cut down to 15 chapters, and now this diary book has only 12 chapters.

In this story, the three girls are on a cruise ship that seems to be cursed. There's what appears to be a body floating in the pool, threatening email sent to people, a really stupid-sounding note sent to Nancy, a newly married couple that is hiding something, a kid named Tobias who is out for the brat-of-the-year award, a moose antler that attacks Nancy, a questionable cameraman and a tarantula in the deserts.

That's not all, of course. It's also a rare book in that Nancy manages to solve a mystery, but there's still at least one more to solve. A good introduction to the series.
