Winner Takes All

An alien group that looks like porcupines is fighting another alien group that looks like praying mantises. They are at a stalemate, so the porcupine group tricks earth people into playing a video game and takes the ones that are really good at it and uses them to infiltrate the enemy stronghold. In the process, some humans are killed.

The Doctor, Rose and Mickey all work to try and stop any more people from playing the game and stop the porcupines from using the Earth people.

The book would have been better if something more believable as aliens had been used. The porcupine and mantis references remind me of the older Doctor Who episodes where it was painfully obvious the 'monster' aliens were men dressed in silly outfits.
