Freaky Green Eyes

This is not a happy book, not by any stretch of the imagination. The novel centers around Franky (Francesca) Pierson, daughter of a renowned sports caster-and-former football professional. Her mother has been the perfect adjunct to her father, appearing at all the parties, etc.

But no longer. Problems seem to have arisen between her mother and her father with her mother ending up going off to live part-time (growing to be basically full-time) at a place where she is surrounded by her artistic friends.

Franky has a younger sister, Samantha and an older brother, Todd.

The novel deals with physical and verbal abuse, with questions of loyalty, even towards whose who might be causing the abuse, and even beyond that questions of expected misplaced loyalty, for Reid Pierson, Franky's father, has a massive difference between his public persona and his actual, real personality.

All of which leads to a horrible family tragedy.

Of, yes, and the book also starts off with Franky almost getting raped at a party. This is not a happy book, but that doesn't mean it's a bad one. It's very well done, tension remaining throughout the book, all the characters being realistic and interesting, and things are as complicated as they would be in "real life."

If you want light-and-happy, skip this book, but if you want an excellent novel that shows the darker side of life then this book is worth your time.
