This is a very interesting book about Geronimo who was born Goyakla in 1829. It also goes into the war between the Mexicans and the Apache, and how Geronimo lost his wife and children in a Mexican ambush. For a long time his war was with the Mexicans, but eventually an accusation by a soldier led to Geronimo fighting the U.S. military. There was, of course, no way that he or any other Native American tribes could eventually defeat the U.S. military since the military had the advantage of numbers of men and weapons, and a technological advantage in the types of weapons they used.
The book says many Americans thought of him as 'an evil savage.' He was really just among the last of a type of life that no longer really had any place in the West.
