Whatever Happened to Janie?

This is the second in the Janie series of books. In this one Janie has gone to live with her birth parents. Nothing seems to go well, though, as she is constantly missing the parents who brought her up, and almost never manages to get along with her 'new' family. In the end, she has to make a decision on whether to live with her birth parents and try, somehow, to adapt, or to move back in with the people who brought her up.

It's an interesting take on the 'nature or nurture' concept. Although Janie lived her first three years with her birth parents, she has spent around four times that length of time with the people who brought her up, and her love and her loyalty lie with them, and not with her birth parents. Indeed, when she returns to her birth parents she's almost in a state of constant verbal conflict with them and the others.

An interesting book, with two more to go in the series.
