The Demon of River Heights

This is the first is a series of Nancy Drew graphic novels. Being a graphic novel it immediately opens itself to possible criticism for how the characters are drawn. The Nancy Drew readers have an idea in their mind's eyes how Nancy and the others are supposed to appear and no one, no matter how good, will be able to meet all the expectations.

So, accepting that this is a graphic novel, I think the drawings of the characters are not bad. The series is up-dated to the present time, so that will affect the appearance of the clothing. Nancy and George I think are done fairly well. I don't think Bess is done quite as well.

There is another character introduced, Deirdre Shannon, who appears to be sort of an arch-nemesis to Nancy much as Lettie was to the Dana Girls, and that's not a bad idea. Since this is the first novel I've read in the series, though, I don't know if Deirdre will be a continuing character or not.

The girls and a couple guys are making a movie in the forest. There's supposed to be a legend of some kind of creature in the forest. Nancy does run across one real creature, a bear, and manages to beat it off.

The guys go missing, though. This ties in to an adult that is checking on a mine in the area, and it turns out he's not exactly doing wonders for the environment with what he plans.

It's a pretty decent story.
