This is the second Fred-the-Mermaid book and it's just as funny as the first one. Fred is called to attend a big meeting of all the mermaids who are going to decide whether or not to remain hidden, or to come out to the world. She starts off encountering a lot of dislike since apparently her father had led an attempt to overthrow the rightful mermaid king and put himself in his place.
Also, she had planned on a relatively quiet time, but it turns out that almost everyone she knows ends up joining her, so she has to deal with her boss and various others. She also has to figure out her relationship to Thomas and Artur, and which one she's the most attracted to.
There's also pirates.
A very enjoyable book.
