The Not-So-Star-Spangled Life of Sunita Sen

Sunita is a girl of Indian heritage living in America. She has become quite Americanized and has the typical teen-age troubles for someone her age. Then her grandparents come from India to stay for a while and her life gets thrown into turmoil. Her grandparents are traditionalists. Sunita's mother suddenly takes a year off from work to be with the grandparents and begins appearing as a traditional Indian wife rather than an Americanized Indian wife.

This creates lots of problems for Sunita, one of which is her crush she has on a guy at her school. Sunita believes she's not supposed to bring any boys to her home. Another girl seems to be her rival for the boy's attention. Sunita is unsure what world she's supposed to be living in; the world of traditional India, or the world of America. In essence, she doesn't know where she fits.

This is really a good book, nothing horrible happening, no major earth-shaking things, just the story of a girl trying to figure where she fits in and the conflicting cultures that she's exposed to. Definitely worth getting.
