This is a very interesting book about an average slave family. The book has a lot of recreation-type photos, along with some drawings. It goes into various topics including marriage and children ('jumping the broom'), slave education (illegal in the South), the types of work that slaves did on a plantation, African culture, and escape.
It's a really good source for the younger reader who wants an overview of what daily life for a slave was like in the U.S.
