Three Good Deeds

Howard is a young teenage boy who's into various pranks and typical young-teenage-boy somewhat bad behavior. So it's nothing unusual for him to be involved in harassing some geese and taking some of their eggs.

The situation becomes somewhat unusual for him, however, when an old woman, who is a witch, lives near the geese pond and doesn't take lightly to young teenage boys bothering her geese.

Hence, Howard gets an up-close-and-personal view of the lives of the geese when he's changed into one by the witch. She gives him an out, though; he must do three good deeds and then he'll change back into a boy.

Doing good deeds when you're a goose is somewhat of a challenge, Howard finds out, along with the fact that to the other geese he's sort of a funny-in-the-head type of goose. Basically, he's the lowest in the pecking order. Even with those disadvantages, though, he manages to do two good deeds.

One thing he didn't count on, though, was the witch dying before he had a chance to do the third good deed. So what is he to do now?

This is another of Vivian Velde's oddball-type books and another one that's quite good. It's also very good the way she gives the geese individual personalities and makes them appear to be interesting characters in their own right.

Definitely a fun read.
