Elizabeth I: Red Rose of the House of Tudor

This is the story of girl who ended up becoming the Queen of England, and one of the most famous royal leaders ever.

There is the typical material of how someone of her social class spent her time, going from castle to castle, flying a hawk, eating fancy foods and never really having to concern herself about money.

It's also the story of an incredibly intelligent girl. At the age of 11 (she turns 12 in the book later), she is studying Astronomy, Physics, Greek, Latin, Math, Grammar, biology, French, Italian and Euclidean geometry. She also plays different music instruments. This was done with tutors, of course, but either she was somehow ultra-intelligent, or young people could be taught a lot more material and of a higher level than is currently done in the schools.

There's a lot about Henry VIII in here, too (not the song, the King), and the characters are done very realistically. It's really an interesting read.
