Undone

This is a book about two girls; Serena and Kori. Both are in high school. Serena is the stereotyped goody-goody girl, and Kori is wild, yet the two end up becoming incredibly close friends. They have known each other for years, and Kori even told Serena in eighth grade that they were connection.

In one of their classes a teacher assigns the students to list five things they dream would never happen to them (of a good nature), and each girl makes her list. Then the book gets very dark when Kori is killed in an auto accident, and Serena dedicates herself to accomplishing the five things that Kori wanted to do on her list.

That leads to a major journey of self-discovery, near-suicide, problems with the school principal and the police, and a lot of mother-daughter problems. What Serena finds out in the end proves shocking and upsetting.

Now, that may sound like it's a bad book, but it's not. It's a very emotional book, more so than most young adult novels, and it's also written very, very well. Everything ends up related to everything else, in a way, and all the questions are answered in the end. I consider it one of the best young adult books I have read.
