In My Father's House and Related Readings

This is a book by McDougal Littell. It reprints the story In My Father's House by Ann Rinaldi, then adds some relevant other readings. The first is about how children in Richmond reacted to the start of the war. The second is about a woman who loses her husband in the battle of Gettysburg, and now has to raise her family on her own. She has a terrible time dealing with the death of her husband.

The next entry is an article by Bruce Catton, noted authority on the Civil War. The next section examines what happened to some of the slaves once their freedom had been granted, and how it wasn't always an immediate ticket to happiness. There are then a couple of poems and one more entry.
