SIV and Suicide

SIV stands for Self Inflicted Violence. The term is used to describe people who are called "cutters", although some people hit themselves instead of cutting, bang their wrists over and over, etc. It basically deals with someone who has very, very intense emotional pain and who cuts, etc. themselves as a way to deal with that pain. (It's much more complex then that, though; The Bright Red Scream explains it very well.)
