Heroic #22

January, 1944.

By this time in the war the United States was definitely gaining grown in the Pacific theater, driving the Japanese forces out of the areas they had taken and pushing them back towards Japan. The fighting was vicious and the hatred between the two was growing all the time.

The cover.

A typical ad from the times showing how the war was impacting everyone.

The octopus-monster has the head of Tojo and, of course, the Japanese flag on its forehead. This is a typical anti-Japanese cartoon.

The Japanese are firing on the men on the deck.

A patriotic panel.

A short story. The story is about one Japanese sniper who picked off men of the Medical Corps who were taking wounded men off the field and how American soldiers finally managed to kill him. The battle was taking place on Attu, one of the islands off Alaska. The Japanese had managed to make a bit of progress but eventually had to abandon the islands. The islands didn't really give either side a practical advantage, especially because the weather tended to be so bad that it made flying planes and piloting boats so bad that neither side could use the islands as a way to attack the other side's home territory.

Another way to spread propaganda was through the use of toys.
