World War II: Victory Over Japan

This is a HistoryNet magazine and parts of it are about the war but there are additional articles on other subjects.

From His Hellcat is an article about the Hellcat planes and how they contributed to the war effort. One part discusses the hidden kamikaze planes that would have been used against American ships if we had actually invaded the homeland.

A Devastating New Weapon Unleashed is, of course, about the atomic bomb. One person proposed using multiple atomic bombs on Japan at the same time. There was one proposal to put lots of freighters near Japan and blowing them all up at once hoping to start a massive earthquake in that country.

There was a memo that said the U.S. could lose up to one million soldiers if the Japanese home islands were invaded. No one knew the exact number, of course, and this depend also on whether or not the Japanese civilian population would take up arms as their leaders wanted them to. If that had happened, at least in my opinion, the bloodbath on both sides would have been beyond horrible.

There is also a book review entitled Grassroots Facism that proves interesting.
